# About DugganUSA

Show the Math on Losing

Most enterprise software companies claim 100% uptime when they're at 80%. We claim 95% when we're at 95%. That 5% gap? That's our guarantee that some bullshit exists in any complex system. We call it **epistemic humility** - and it's the foundation of everything we build.

The Founding Story

**Patrick Duggan** and **Paul Galjan** met at DARPA/OSD (1996-2000) during the early days of network security operations. Patrick (codename: Randy/Dwarf - the engineer) built systems. Paul (codename: Avi/King - the strategist) scaled operations.

25 years later, they reunited to solve a problem that didn't exist in 1996 but dominates 2025: **AI infrastructure security**.

The Problem We Solve

Enterprise security has three core problems:

1. **Bloatware Costs**

- Splunk SIEM: $2.8M/year for log aggregation

- Cisco buys Splunk for $28B, then sues Cribl for patent infringement while Splunk dies

- **Our approach:** Git + grep = $0/year SIEM with full audit trail

2. **Litigation Over Innovation**

- EMC sued Mike Wing (Pure Storage CTO) personally, spent $35M, settled for $25M

- EMC lost $40B market cap while Pure Storage went from $10M to $15B

- ROI on litigation: **-42,757%**

- **Our approach:** Document patterns, publish receipts, let the market decide

3. **Security Theater**

- Most companies chase 100% compliance scores with no actual security

- Azure Defender shows us at 22% "healthy" - that's a FEATURE (we have zero legacy debt)

- **Our approach:** 81% SOC1 compliance at $77/month (not $77K/month)

What We Built

**Butterbot by DugganUSA**

An agentic AI platform that learns from 90+ documented patterns of enterprise failure. Think of it as "The Cribl of Agentic AI" - purpose-built data pipelines for AI training, not generic infrastructure.

**Architecture:**

- **Central Brain:** Event ingestion from 5 sources (security, business, marketing, user behavior, pattern documentation)

- **Intelligence APIs:** 15 RESTful endpoints for real-time queries

- **Butterbot Training:** JSONL export for GPT-4 fine-tuning (OpenAI-compatible)

- **Pattern Documentation:** 90+ patents capturing enterprise anti-patterns

**Cost Structure:**

- Azure: $130-140/month (1 core, 1.75GB RAM)

- Cloudflare: $0/month (Free tier, 100% bypass success over 180+ days)

- Storage: $2-3/month (Azure Tables + Blob)

- **Total:** $140/month vs $5K/month typical enterprise

**Performance:**

- DORA Metrics: **Elite tier** (top 7% of engineering orgs)

- Deployment frequency: 3-5 deploys/day

- MTTR: 7-15 minutes

- Change failure rate: <5%

The Partnership Model: Randy & Avi

We structure DugganUSA on the Cryptonomicon model:

**Patrick Duggan (Randy/Dwarf):**

- Builds the systems

- Documents the patterns

- Writes the receipts

- Lives in Minnesota

- Handles: Engineering, compliance, infrastructure

**Paul Galjan (Avi/King):**

- Scales the operations

- Trains the AI

- Manages partnerships

- Lives in [Location]

- Handles: Strategy, sales, relationships

**Equity Split:** 50/50. No outside investment until we hit profitability. Retain control.

**Philosophy:** Fuck-you money means never having to say yes to a bad deal.

The Blog: 61 Case Studies

Every post follows the same structure:

1. **Show the receipt** (stock prices, market caps, litigation costs)

2. **Calculate the ROI** (always negative for the loser)

3. **Document the pattern** (what to avoid)

4. **Archive in Butterbot** (train the AI to avoid the same mistakes)

**Greatest Hits:**

**Litigation Trilogy**

- **EMC vs Pure Storage:** ROI on suing Mike Wing = -42,757%

- **Cisco vs Cribl:** ROI on litigation = -4,067% (while Splunk dies)

- **Dell Delicatessen:** Sold VMware ($69B), kept sawdust (3.8% net margins)

**Technical Deep Dives**

- **Git Push Rejection = ROI:** 8 rejections in one session = proof automation works (ROI: 125,000,000%)

- **SIEM is Grep with Sales Team:** DugganUSA $0/year vs Enterprise SIEM $2.8M/year

- **Krebs-Level DDoS Protection:** $0/month residential proxy vs Cloudflare Pro $240/year

**Pattern Documentation**

- **Pattern #18:** Creative Monetization via Absurdist Confidence (Oxballs Purple Team post)

- **Pattern #20:** "I don't pick the Overton windows - I just look through them"

- **Pattern #22:** Deployment Confirmation Law (cost of violating: $18.5K-$39.5K)

The Philosophy: Full Bono

**Full Bono** = DARPA methodology for 2-4 hour intensive work sessions. Named after Paul "Bono" Galjan.

**How it works:**

1. Identify the problem (high-value, well-defined scope)

2. Load context (2-4 hours max)

3. Solve completely (no half-measures)

4. Document the receipt (compliance evidence)

5. Push to production (DORA Elite cadence)

**Results:**

- 90+ patents documented in 6 months

- 61 blog posts published

- $153M-$512M ARR potential (patent portfolio valuation)

- Zero outside investment required

The Mission: Born Without Sin

Most enterprises have 20-30 years of technical debt. Legacy databases, monolithic applications, vendor lock-in.

**DugganUSA was born in 2024.** We have:

- Zero legacy debt

- Zero vendor lock-in (Azure only for compute/storage, everything else self-hosted)

- Zero bloatware (git + grep > Splunk)

**Our Azure Defender score is 22%.** That's not a weakness - that's proof we don't have enterprise sprawl to protect.

**Our SOC1 compliance is 81%.** Achieved at $77/month, not $77K/month.

Stanford MBA Validation Thesis

We published 7 blog posts on October 20, 2025 with 90-day market predictions:

**High-Confidence (90%):**

- Dell underperforms S&P 500 by 10-15%

- Splunk revenue declines 5-10% YoY

**Medium-Confidence (70-85%):**

- Super Micro outperforms Dell by 20-30%

- Broadcom +15-25% (VMware monopoly extraction)

- Cribl Series E at $5B+ valuation

**The Bet:** If 6/7 predictions are correct by January 20, 2026, we've demonstrated MBA-equivalent strategic analysis competency without the $200K degree.

**The Evidence:** Real market risk, publicly documented predictions, reputation on the line.

The Bottom Line

Most companies optimize for looking good. We optimize for **showing the math.**

If the math says we lose, we publish the receipt and document the pattern. If the math says we win, we publish the receipt and patent the method.

**No bullshit. Just receipts.**
