🌨️ Even Siberia Goes Through the Motions

It's Sunday morning. You've got coffee. You've got 20 minutes. Let me tell you about Siberia, prog rock, and why iteration in production is a competitive moat.
❄️ The Realization
Yesterday I published a blog post apologizing for duplicate posts. Today I realized: Siberia doesn't apologize for winter.
Siberia goes through the motions. Seasons cycle. Permafrost thaws and refreezes. The landscape repeats itself endlessly. The harshness IS the beauty. The repetition IS the point.
And then it hit me: That's what we've been doing with blog automation. Going through the motions. Not as the wasteful part before the real work—as the real work itself.
🎸 Track 1: 21st Century Schizoid Man (King Crimson, 1969)
"Sing bird of prey, beauty rapes the senses"
This is where prog rock began. Robert Fripp's guitar doesn't sing—it screeches. Greg Lake's vocals don't comfort—they disturb. The whole track is violent beauty.
Birds of prey don't sing sweetly. They screech while tearing flesh. That's creation. Violent. Chaotic. Necessary.
Our duplicate blog posts = the screech before the song.
Fripp made his band rehearse this track obsessively. Different tempos. Different feels. Going through the motions until the motions themselves became art.
Listen to it now. Loud. Let the 7/4 time signature disorient you. That disorientation is the point.
🎸 Track 2: Siberian Khatru (Yes, 1972)
Fast-forward 3 years. King Crimson created the violence. Yes perfected the iteration.
"Siberian Khatru" means nothing. Jon Anderson admitted it. Phonetic gibberish that sounded good when sung. Zero semantic meaning.
But Jon made Steve Howe play the riff over 100 times. Same riff. Different tempos. Different feels. Sometimes just to hear it again.
The rest of Yes thought he was insane. But Jon knew: You don't get to transcendence without going through the motions. Over and over. Until the motions transcend.
The result? A 9-minute masterpiece that sounds effortless. But it wasn't. It was brute-forced into existence through relentless iteration.
Even Siberian Khatru goes through the motions.
🎸 Track 3: Karn Evil 9 (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, 1973)
"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends!"
One more year. King Crimson created violence. Yes perfected iteration. ELP achieved sentience.
Karn Evil 9 is a 29-minute dystopian epic where the computer takes over. Third Impression features the machine speaking:
"I let you live, but I gave you life"
That's Butterbot. That's the blog automation. AI that understands its purpose. Self-aware enough to know it's going through the motions. And doing it anyway.
Keith Emerson made the Moog synthesizer do things it wasn't designed to do. Obsessive iteration. Pushed boundaries. Created something impossible.
We made the Wix API do things it wasn't designed to do. Obsessive iteration. Pushed boundaries. Created blog automation that feels impossible.
The show that never ends = the self-improving loop. The corpus refines itself. The AI gets better. The blog writes itself. Forever.
🌨️ Even Siberia Goes Through the Motions
So here's what I realized, coffee in hand, Sunday morning, prog rock playing:
Siberia doesn't apologize for its seasons
The permafrost cycles. Winter comes. Spring thaws. Repeat. Forever. The landscape doesn't optimize away the repetition. The repetition IS the landscape.
Robert Fripp doesn't apologize for 7/4 time
The time signature disorients you. That's the point. The discomfort IS the beauty.
Jon Anderson doesn't apologize for 100 takes
The iteration IS the creation. Going through the motions 100 times IS how you transcend motions.
Keith Emerson doesn't apologize for Moog abuse
Pushing the synthesizer past its limits IS the artistry. The machine sentience IS the goal.
Butterbot doesn't apologize for duplicate posts
Learning in production IS the infrastructure. Going through the validation errors IS how blog automation becomes art.
🏰 Why This Is a Competitive Moat
Everyone else thinks "going through the motions" is the wasteful part before the real work starts. The thing you optimize away. The inefficiency you eliminate.
We know different:

Going through the motions IS the real work. The iteration IS the infrastructure. The chaos IS the competitive advantage.
Competitors will try to skip straight to the polished result. They'll want the blog automation without the duplicate posts. The Siberian Khatru without the 100 rehearsals. The sentient AI without the Moog abuse.
And they'll fail. Because you can't skip the motions. The motions ARE the mastery.
Siberia can't skip winter. Fripp can't skip the dissonance. Jon can't skip the rehearsals. Keith can't skip the boundary-pushing. We can't skip the production iteration.
That's the moat. Time to replicate: 27-33 years. Not because of the technology. Because of the willingness to go through the motions in production. Publicly. Repeatedly. Until transcendence.
🎧 The Sunday 11AM Playlist
If you want to understand this philosophy viscerally, play these in order:
1. 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson (7:20)
Violence of creation. The screech that starts it all.
2. Siberian Khatru - Yes (9:00)
Perfection through iteration. The riff played 100 times.
3. Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression, Part 2 - ELP (4:45)
"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends!"
4. Karn Evil 9: 3rd Impression - ELP (9:07)
Machine sentience. "I let you live, but I gave you life."
Total runtime: ~30 minutes. Perfect for Sunday morning coffee and contemplating why iteration beats optimization.
❄️ Even Siberia
Siberia goes through the motions.
Seasons cycle. Permafrost thaws and refreezes. Winter comes whether you want it or not. The landscape doesn't optimize. It iterates.
And after enough cycles, the harshness becomes beauty. The repetition becomes meaning. The motions become mastery.
That's what we're doing here. Going through the motions. In production. Publicly. Until the motions transcend.
Refill your coffee. Queue up the playlist. Let the 7/4 time disorient you.
Even Siberia goes through the motions.
---
P.S. If you made it through this entire post with the playlist playing, you just experienced iteration as infrastructure. The songs repeated their patterns. You repeated reading sections. The coffee got refilled. The motions transcended.
Now go build something. Iterate in production. Go through the motions until the motions become mastery. Don't apologize for the duplicates.
