# Follow the Money: $2 Million in Wire Transfers from Jeffrey Epstein to Philippe Laffont's Coatue
Four Payments. Four Indexes. One $76/Month Search Engine in Minnesota.
Deutsche Bank's SDNY records show four wire transfers from Jeffrey Epstein's Southern Financial LLC to Coatue Enterprises LLC between May 2017 and September 2018. Each transfer was exactly $500,000. Total: $2 million.
Charles Schwab's AML investigation file — Case CA111517, opened July 8, 2019, the day of Epstein's arrest — shows three checks flowing back the other direction: Coatue Enterprises LLC to Southern Financial LLC, totaling $39,000, deposited between May and June 2019.
And the registered agent for Coatue Enterprises LLC in New York? HBRK Associates Inc. — the company of Richard Kahn, Jeffrey Epstein's financial administrator.
These are not allegations. These are Bates-stamped exhibits from federal investigations. They have been public for months. Nobody connected the dots.
The Wire Transfers
**Exhibit B: Transactions Involving Hedge/Investment Funds** (EFTA00027019 through EFTA00027021), from the Deutsche Bank SDNY investigation:
| Date | From | To | Amount | Bates # |
|------|------|----|--------|---------|
| May 5, 2017 | Southern Financial LLC | Coatue Enterprises LLC | $500,000 | DB-SDNY-0000478 |
| January 12, 2018 | Southern Financial LLC | Coatue Enterprises LLC | $500,000 | DB-SDNY-0006847 |
| June 13, 2018 | Southern Financial LLC | Coatue Enterprises LLC | $500,000 | DB-SDNY-0007289 |
| September 28, 2018 | Southern Financial LLC | Coatue Enterprises LLC | $500,000 | DB-SDNY-0007748 |
Southern Financial LLC is Jeffrey Epstein's primary investment vehicle, domiciled at 6100 Red Hook Quarter B3, St. Thomas, USVI. It banked at Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, 345 Park Avenue, New York. The same entity that moved $12.8 million to Tudor Futures Fund, millions to Valar Global Fund, $15 million to Blockchain Capital, and tens of millions through Honeycomb Partners.
Coatue Enterprises LLC is the investment entity of Philippe Laffont, founder of Coatue Management. Coatue currently manages approximately $48 billion in assets. Their portfolio includes Meta, Snap, DoorDash, Airtable, and dozens of other technology companies. Their limited partners include pension funds and university endowments.
Four identical $500,000 payments over seventeen months. That's not a gift. That's a subscription.
The Registered Agent
**Document EFTA01265973** — Charles Schwab AML Investigation, Case CA111517, created July 8, 2019:
The Schwab investigator's own notes state:
> *"COATUE ENTERPRISES LLC — Actively registered in the state of NY with agent listed as HBRK ASSOCIATES INC. (KAHN'S company)"*
HBRK Associates Inc. operates from 575 Lexington Avenue, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10022. Its principal is **Richard Kahn**. Richard Kahn is identified in the same Schwab investigation as:
- The **agent** on all three of Jeffrey Epstein's Charles Schwab accounts (Southern Financial LLC, Southern Trust Company Inc., Southern Country International Ltd.)
- The person who called Schwab to cancel a $12.7 million wire transfer to Marc Leon in Morocco on June 27, 2019
- The person who signed a second $14.95 million wire request to Morocco alongside Jeffrey Epstein on July 5, 2019 — one day before Epstein's arrest
- Jeffrey Epstein's financial controller, operating from the same 575 Lexington Avenue address
The registered agent for Coatue Enterprises LLC's New York entity is Jeffrey Epstein's financial administrator. The corporate registration runs through the same office that managed Epstein's investment accounts, signed his wire transfers, and attempted to move $27.6 million to Morocco in the weeks before his arrest.
The Money Flows Both Ways
The Schwab case file (EFTA01265978 through EFTA01265993) documents the Southern Financial LLC account (Account #11481413, opened April 19, 2019). The transaction detail shows three incoming check deposits from Coatue:
| Date | From | To | Amount | JP Morgan Check |
|------|------|----|--------|----------------|
| May 9, 2019 | Coatue Enterprises LLC | Southern Financial LLC | $15,300 | #107 |
| May 9, 2019 | Coatue Enterprises LLC | Southern Financial LLC | $10,200 | #108 |
| June 10, 2019 | Coatue Enterprises LLC | Southern Financial LLC | $14,300 | #109 |
All three checks drawn on Coatue's JP Morgan account. The Schwab investigator's summary confirms: **"COATUE ENTERPRISES LLC: +$39,000"** deposited into Epstein's Southern Financial LLC account.
The same account received $42,700 from Darren K. Indyke and Michelle F. Saipher — Epstein's attorneys — noted as "Promissory Note Dated 6-13-18 and 6-17-16 - Interest Pmts."
So: $2 million flowed from Epstein to Coatue (2017-2018). $39,000 flowed from Coatue back to Epstein (May-June 2019). The return payments arrived in an account that was opened weeks before Epstein's arrest, alongside checks from Epstein's lawyers and wire transfers from his other entities.
The Portfolio
The same Schwab account records show what Epstein held. Transferred into the Southern Financial LLC account from TD Ameritrade on April 25, 2019:
- 3,000 shares **GOOG** (Alphabet Inc.)
- 263,157 shares **APO** (Apollo Global Management LP)
- 25,000 shares **CVNA** (Carvana Co.)
- 1,000 shares **AMZN** (Amazon.com Inc.)
- 25,000 shares **KPTI** (Karyopharm Therapeutics)
The Southern Country International account held an additional portfolio including 10,000 shares of Exxon Mobil, 10,000 shares of Illumina, Goldman Sachs shares, and large fixed-income positions in Citigroup, Lloyds Banking Group, JBS Investments, JPMorgan Chase, and Assurant.
The 263,157 shares of APO — Apollo Global Management, Leon Black's firm — are notable. Epstein's financial relationship with Leon Black is well documented: Exhibit A in the same case file details over $158 million in transactions between Black/Apollo entities and Epstein's accounts through Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) SA in Geneva.
The Dinner Parties
The financial connection doesn't exist in isolation. Ghislaine Maxwell's email cache — released by the DOJ and indexed in the same document set — contains correspondence with **Thomas Laffont**, Philippe's brother and Coatue co-founder.
**Document EFTA02334670** — Ghislaine Maxwell to Thomas Laffont:
> *"Tom the girl that you were sitting next to at dinner wants to e mail or call you - Can I give her a no. or your e mail - Thanks - Let me know"*
**Document EFTA02334671** — Ghislaine Maxwell to Thomas Laffont:
> *"Tom - Thank you so much for the flowers. They were GORGEOUS. Look forward to seeing you again soon"*
**Document EFTA02332599** — Linh-Dan Pham to Ghislaine Maxwell, September 25, 2003:
> *"Dear Ghislaine, Got your message. Thanks for lovely din dins on Monday. Please send me Tom Laffont's contacts. Thanks. Kisses — Linh-Dan"*
**Document EFTA02332600** — Thomas Laffont responds via BlackBerry, authorizing Maxwell to share his email and cell phone number with the woman from dinner.
The pattern is documented in dozens of other Maxwell email chains with other names. Ghislaine hosts dinners. Women are seated next to men. After dinner, Maxwell facilitates the contact exchange. This is the introduction pipeline that has been widely reported in the context of Epstein's operation. Thomas Laffont appears in it.
The Guest Lists
**Document EFTA02424126** — "YES LIST - WALL STREET" — 333 people, compiled by Margaux Rogers for Jeffrey Epstein, August 16, 2010:
> *"2 Mr. & Mrs. Philippe Laffont ( Ana Louisa ) / BUSINESS/ 400/ 300/ MORTIMER/ KIDS/ NANTUCKET/"*
Philippe and Ana Louisa Laffont appear on Epstein's curated Wall Street invitation list alongside Leon Black (Apollo Management), David Koch, Steven Mnuchin, Henry Kravis (KKR), Stephen Schwarzman (Blackstone), Wilbur Ross, and Jeff Zucker (NBC Universal).
**Document EFTA02370977** — Peggy Siegal's 70th Birthday Dinner, Southampton, July 2017:
Jeffrey Epstein funded this dinner with a $100,000 gift. The email from Siegal to Richard Kahn — the same Richard Kahn who serves as Coatue's registered agent — breaks it down: $30,000 for the party, $15,000 to Elton John's AIDS Foundation, $20,000 deposit for Stark Carpet, $15,000 TBD.
The guest list includes:
> *"DESSERT ONLY - Total: 8"*
> *"2do Mr. Philippe Laffont & Ms. Ana Louisa Laffont"*
The Laffonts attended dessert at a party financed entirely by Jeffrey Epstein, organized through Richard Kahn at HBRK Associates — the registered agent for Coatue Enterprises LLC — eleven months after the first $500,000 wire transfer to Coatue.
Other dinner guests: Christie Brinkley, Martha Stewart, Calvin Klein, David Koch, Mark Rockefeller, and Wilbur Ross.
The Offshore Trail
Cross-referencing "Laffont" and "Lafontaine" against the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists' Offshore Leaks database — 1,785,560 entities from the Panama Papers, Paradise Papers, and Pandora Papers — returns 14 hits. Nine are corporate entities, all administered from Geneva, Switzerland, most through Mossack Fonseca:
| Entity | Jurisdiction | Incorporated | Status | Geneva Address |
|--------|-------------|-------------|--------|----------------|
| LAFONT FINANCE LTD. | BVI | October 1993 | Defaulted | Mossack Fonseca Geneva, 4 Rue Micheli-du-Crest |
| LAFONT & CIE. | Niue | July 1996 | Defaulted | Societe de Controle Fiduciaire, 7 Rue des Battoirs |
| LAFONTAINE LTD | Bahamas | December 1998 | Unknown | — |
| LAFONTAINE FINANCE LTD. | Niue | May 2000 | Dissolved | Favona S.A., Rue de Saussure 6 |
| N.V. LAFONT INC. | BVI | March 2002 | Dissolved | Curaçao Trust Management |
| LAFONT CAPITAL INC. | BVI | May 2003 | Defaulted | Caversham S.A., Rue du XXXI Decembre 42 |
| Lafontaine Holdings Ltd. | Bahamas | June 2005 | Unknown | — |
| LAFONT CONSULTANTS S.A. | Panama | May 2009 | **ACTIVE** | MFT Services SA, Rue Etienne-Dumont 22 |
| LaFontaine Holdings LLC | USA | — | — | Paradise Papers (Appleby) |
Shell companies created in secrecy jurisdictions — BVI, Niue, Panama, Bahamas — all administered from Geneva addresses within walking distance of each other. Entities open, default or dissolve, and new ones replace them. A rolling series spanning 1993 to at least 2009.
**LAFONT CONSULTANTS S.A.**, incorporated in Panama on May 20, 2009, remains **ACTIVE** as of the last ICIJ data release. Managed by MFT Services SA at Rue Etienne-Dumont 22, 1204 Geneva, Switzerland.
We note explicitly: the ICIJ offshore entities carry the surname "Lafont" and "Lafontaine" and are concentrated in Geneva. We have not established a direct ownership link between these entities and the Laffont family of Coatue Management. The name overlap and geographic concentration is what the data shows. Readers and investigators should draw their own conclusions.
What we can establish: Jeffrey Epstein used Mossack Fonseca.
**Document EFTA02466088** — April 21, 2016, one week after the Panama Papers broke worldwide:
**Joi Ito** emails Jeffrey Epstein. Subject line: **"Mossack Fonseca"**
> *"Did you use Mossack Fonseca? ;-)"*
**Jeffrey Epstein** replies:
> *"Told everyone. Old school"*
Epstein doesn't deny it. He characterizes the leaked firm as "old school" — implying familiarity, not distance. Every Lafont offshore entity in the ICIJ database lists Mossack Fonseca as service provider. Jeffrey Epstein, by his own email admission one week after the Panama Papers leak, was a Mossack Fonseca client. The firm that administered the Lafont shells is the firm that Epstein used.
The Schwab Investigation
The Charles Schwab AML case file (CA111517) was opened on July 8, 2019 — the day of Epstein's arrest. The investigation encompasses three accounts opened just weeks earlier:
- **Account 11481413** — Southern Financial LLC (opened April 19, 2019)
- **Account 14332170** — Southern Country International Ltd. (opened May 13, 2019)
- **Account 41224708** — Southern Trust Company Inc. (opened April 11, 2019)
All three accounts list Jeffrey Epstein as beneficial owner and Richard Kahn as agent. The accounts were used to transfer stock portfolios from TD Ameritrade and Merrill Lynch, sell positions, and attempt international wire transfers.
The investigator notes that on June 26, 2019, a $12,708,324 wire was sent to Marc Leon in Morocco for "real estate purposes." Richard Kahn called the next day to recall it, citing renegotiated terms. A second wire for $14,950,000 was requested on July 4, 2019, signed by both Kahn and Epstein on July 5 — then canceled on July 9. The investigator determined to file a Suspicious Activity Report "reporting the outgoing international wire attempts for real estate purposes in light of the negative media in which articles indicate EPSTEIN is a possible flight risk."
Coatue Enterprises LLC appears in this investigation file as a source of funds flowing into Epstein's accounts, with the investigator specifically noting its corporate registration through HBRK Associates — Kahn's firm.
How We Found This
We indexed 329,473 DOJ Epstein documents. We cross-referenced them against 1,785,560 ICIJ offshore entities from the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers. We searched 499,682 tracked queries. We read the Schwab case file that was sitting in the index the entire time.
The DOJ released 3 million pages and called it transparency. They did not provide a search bar. They did not cross-reference with the Panama Papers. They did not connect Coatue's registered agent to Epstein's financial administrator.
We did. Four searches on a platform that runs on $76/month of Azure infrastructure in Minnesota.
