# The $170 Million Question: Why the Thiel-Epstein Money Trail Isn't in the DOJ Files

**Author:** Patrick Duggan

**Category:** Investigative, Epstein Files, Follow the Money

We've been indexing the DOJ's Epstein Files Transparency Act release - 3.5 million pages of documents, photos, and videos. Pattern recognition is what we do. And sometimes the pattern is what's *missing*.

The Money Trail That Exists - But Not Here

Jeffrey Epstein invested **$40 million** in Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures between 2015-2016. That investment is now worth approximately **$170 million** - the largest remaining asset in Epstein's estate.

This isn't speculation. It's documented in:

- Confidential USVI probate court filings (briefly public, then **sealed**)

- Wall Street Journal reporting on Epstein's private calendar

- Leaked emails from the Handala hacker group

Yet search our index of 40,000+ EFTA documents for "Thiel" and you get one hit: **Delphine Brach-Thiel**, a French legal scholar cited in Maxwell's bail proceedings.

What We Know From Outside Sources

The 2014 Calendar

Wall Street Journal obtained Epstein's private calendar showing:

- **Multiple meetings** with Thiel at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse

- **Dinner with Woody Allen** on the schedule

- Meetings with **Thomas Barrack** (Trump's inaugural chairman)

- **Ehud Barak** visited ~30 times between 2013-2017

The Investment Chain

According to leaked documents and investigative reporting:

Where the Money Goes

The $170M is currently locked in the VC fund. When it unlocks, it goes to:

- Epstein's ex-girlfriends

- Two long-term advisers named as estate beneficiaries

**Not the victims.**

Why Isn't This in the EFTA Files?

The DOJ released millions of pages. They included:

- Maxwell's device forensics

- FBI communications

- Victim testimony

- Legal proceedings

They did NOT include:

- Epstein's private calendar

- The Valar Ventures investment documents

- Thiel-Epstein correspondence

- Financial records showing the PayPal Mafia connections

Possible Explanations

1. **Never subpoenaed** - DOJ didn't pursue the Thiel financial angle

2. **Different jurisdiction** - USVI probate vs SDNY criminal case

3. **Actively sealed** - Protected from disclosure

4. **Classified** - Intelligence community involvement (Barak, Burns meetings)

The Dimes Square Connection

For those tracking the cultural angle: Peter Thiel's financial network extends to:

- **Sovereign House** (NYC right-wing salon) - rumored funding, denied

- **NPC Film Festival** - confirmed Thiel funding

- **Urbit Foundation** (Curtis Yarvin) - confirmed Thiel backing

- **Valar Ventures** - co-founded by Thiel, received Epstein's $40M

The money flows from convicted sex trafficker → Silicon Valley billionaire → cultural infrastructure.

The 2002 New York Magazine Article

While we're connecting dots: In 2002, New York Magazine published a glowing profile of Epstein titled "International Moneyman of Mystery."

- Trump quote in the article: "I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy...likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

- **Melania Trump praised Maxwell** in an email about the article

- The author, Landon Thomas Jr., later accepted a $30,000 donation from Epstein

The puff piece ran 6 years before Epstein's first conviction.

What's Actually in Our Index

We've indexed 115,000+ IOCs, 40,000+ Epstein documents, and cross-referenced everything. The EFTA files contain:

- Detailed victim accounts

- Maxwell's devices and communications

- DOJ internal deliberations

- Legal proceedings

They're valuable for understanding the *operation*. But the *money trail* - especially the Silicon Valley connections - appears to have been surgically excluded.

The Question

Three sources give us the Thiel-Epstein financial connection:

1. Iranian hackers (Handala group)

2. Briefly unsealed USVI court docs

3. Investigative journalists with undisclosed sources

Why did it take foreign intelligence leaks and court filing timing accidents to surface a $40 million investment between a convicted sex trafficker and one of America's most powerful tech billionaires?

The DOJ had these documents. The question is why they're not in the "transparency" release.
