# The Crypto Switchboard
**In a single week in January 2014, Jeffrey Epstein proposed a "Russian bitcoin" to Vladimir Putin AND brokered bitcoin intelligence to Reid Hoffman. Same man. Same week. Different world leaders.**
The Epstein files contain 101,123 unique government documents. Thirty-three mention bitcoin by name. Seventeen reference blockchain. Seventy-three reference crypto. What they reveal isn't a trading strategy — it's a brokerage operation.
The Week That Maps the Network
**January 19, 2014.** Epstein emails Thorbjørn Jagland, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe:
> "you can explain to putin, that there should be a sopshiticated russian version of bitcoin. it would be the most advanced financial instrument availbale on a global basis"
Jagland was heading to Sochi to meet Putin. He invited Epstein to Davos. Epstein was in Paris.
**EFTA01941232.** Government-released. Searchable.
**January 22, 2014.** Three days later. Epstein emails Reid Hoffman — co-founder of LinkedIn, PayPal mafia, Silicon Valley kingmaker:
> "have some inquiries from some interesting people, re a bitcoin type currency, wait until you hear"
**EFTA01938737.** Same week. Different audience. Same broker.
In one week, Epstein was simultaneously pitching cryptocurrency strategy to the Russian government through the Council of Europe AND teasing crypto intelligence to one of Silicon Valley's most connected investors. This isn't investing. This is intelligence brokerage.
The Blockstream Connection
**October 28, 2017.** Austin Hill arrives at 358 El Brillo Way, Palm Beach — Epstein's Florida residence.
Hill is the co-founder of **Blockstream**, the company that builds the infrastructure layer for Bitcoin. He brings a team including a blockchain project manager. They request AV equipment for "documents & diagrams." They stay at the Four Seasons.
**Michael Casey** — blockchain journalist and advisor to MIT's Digital Currency Initiative — was invited but couldn't attend.
Epstein's review of the team afterward: "not much of a team."
**EFTA02228158, EFTA02228944.** Six documents across this thread. Private blockchain technology briefings at a convicted sex offender's residence.
The MIT Pipeline
**Madars Virza** is a Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab. His specialty: **zero-knowledge proofs** — the cryptographic technique that powers privacy-preserving transactions. The technology behind Zcash.
On **April 29, 2019**, Virza visited Epstein at 9 East 71st Street, Manhattan. He brought gifts:
> "two books: one on Bitcoin, one on probability, one letter, and one card about an hour of Eucharistic adoration I offered for Jeffrey"
After the meeting, Virza emailed:
> "Was glowing when I returned to Columbia — JE is such a torrent of positive energy."
This was six weeks before Epstein's arrest. The house had yellow tape around it. Virza came to the front door anyway.
**EFTA02284036, EFTA02284711.** A MIT cryptography researcher making personal visits and religious offerings to a convicted sex offender. The same MIT that received $7.5 million from Epstein through Joi Ito's Media Lab.
The Medici Bank Play
**May 19-20, 2019.** Weeks before arrest. Epstein is angel-investing in **Medici Bank** — a cryptocurrency banking startup founded by **Prince Lorenzo de' Medici** and **Ed Boyle**.
The introduction comes through **Crypto PR Lab** (cryptoprlab.com, featured in Forbes and Bitcoin.com). The email references "friends of Brock" — almost certainly **Brock Pierce**, chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation, whose own history includes disturbing allegations through the Digital Entertainment Network.
Lorenzo is at the amfAR charity event in Cannes. Lesley Groff coordinates the call. Epstein is cc'd on everything.
**EFTA02285250, EFTA02285251.** A convicted sex offender investing in crypto banking infrastructure with someone named "Prince Lorenzo de' Medici," brokered by a firm called "Crypto PR Lab," with "friends of Brock." Even the naming conventions sound like a parody of financial corruption.
The Pattern
Epstein wasn't buying bitcoin. He was brokering **crypto intelligence** the same way he brokered geopolitical intelligence:
| Date | Target | Channel | Intelligence |
|------|--------|---------|-------------|
| Jan 19, 2014 | Putin/Russia | Council of Europe Secretary General | "Russian version of bitcoin" |
| Jan 22, 2014 | Reid Hoffman | Direct email | "bitcoin type currency" inquiries |
| Oct 28, 2017 | Blockstream team | Palm Beach residence | Blockchain technology briefing |
| Feb 2018 | MIT DCI team | Harvard schedule | Digital Currency Initiative meeting |
| Apr 29, 2019 | Madars Virza (MIT) | 9 East 71st St | Zero-knowledge proof expertise |
| May 19, 2019 | Medici Bank | Angel investment | Crypto banking infrastructure |
| May 24, 2019 | Tourmaline Partners | Book request | "Bitcoin Billionaire" |
Seven data points across five years. The same brokerage model: collect intelligence from technical experts (MIT, Blockstream), package it for power (Putin, Hoffman, Thiel), and invest in infrastructure (Medici Bank) to maintain access.
What This Means
The crypto thread connects directly to every other thread in the Epstein investigation. Hoffman appears in the Silicon Valley thread. Putin appears in the Russia thread. MIT appears in the institutional corruption thread. The Council of Europe connects to the European intelligence thread.
Cryptocurrency wasn't a side interest. It was another **switching layer** — another domain where Epstein could broker access between people who shouldn't be in the same room.
A registered sex offender proposing national cryptocurrency strategy to Vladimir Putin through the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, while simultaneously teasing bitcoin intelligence to the co-founder of LinkedIn, while receiving private blockchain briefings from the co-founder of Blockstream, while a MIT zero-knowledge proof researcher brings him bitcoin books and religious offerings.
