# The Intelligence Pipeline: How Obama's White House Counsel Fed Political Intel to a Sex Offender
Congress subpoenaed Kathryn Ruemmler today.
She resigned from Goldman Sachs three weeks ago. She was Obama's White House Counsel. She is CARVER 22 in our scoring matrix with 4,985 indexed documents. And today, March 5, 2026, the House Oversight Committee hauled her in.
We've written about Ruemmler twice before. The first time we published "Victim's rights, my ass" and her CVRA strategy emails. The second time we covered her Goldman resignation. Both posts used DOJ documents from Datasets 1-12.
This post uses the new House Oversight Democrats' third batch — released today. And it changes what Ruemmler was.
She wasn't just Epstein's lawyer who said she wasn't his lawyer. She was his intelligence pipeline into American political power.
The Mnuchin Warning
**HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_032386 / HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_033200** — December 1, 2016
Three weeks after Trump won the presidency, Kathryn Ruemmler emailed Jeffrey Epstein:
> "The dems are going to take out a couple of Trump's nominees, and mnuchin may be one of them."
Steven Mnuchin was Trump's nominee for Treasury Secretary. The confirmation fight hadn't started yet. The Senate hadn't convened. And Obama's former White House Counsel was feeding political intelligence about the incoming administration's Cabinet picks to a registered sex offender.
Not gossip. Intelligence. The kind that comes from still having contacts inside the Democratic establishment. The kind you share with someone whose interests you're actively managing.
Mnuchin was confirmed. But the point isn't whether the prediction was right. The point is that Ruemmler was functioning as a political early warning system for Epstein — feeding him advance intel on which Trump nominees were vulnerable.
Why would a convicted sex offender need advance warning about Treasury Secretary confirmation fights?
The Talking Points
**EFTA02468039** — March 29, 2016
During the Republican primary, Jeffrey Epstein emailed Ruemmler at 11:56 PM:
> "trump is likely to be asked questions soon about me — in an ideal world what would you think he should/could say"
Read that again. A convicted sex offender is asking Obama's former White House Counsel to draft talking points for the Republican presidential frontrunner about their relationship.
This isn't legal advice. This is crisis communications management. Epstein anticipated that his relationship with Trump would become a campaign issue, and he turned to the woman who used to advise the sitting president for message strategy.
The document doesn't show Ruemmler's response. But we know she didn't say "I can't help you with that." We know because six months later, she was still emailing him daily.
"Trump Is Truly Stupid"
**HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_032553 / HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_033013** — July 20, 2017
Six months into the Trump presidency:
Ruemmler: "Trump is truly stupid."
Epstein: "Duh"
This is from the House Oversight batch released today. Not a DOJ dataset. Congressional investigators found this.
The woman who warned Epstein about Trump's Cabinet nominees also thought Trump was stupid. The sex offender agreed. And they were both still talking — July 2017, over a year after she'd been asked to draft Trump's talking points about Epstein.
The dynamic is clear: Ruemmler provided political intelligence. Epstein provided... what? Career management. Financial introductions. Access.
The Rothschild Agreement
**EFTA02489712** — August 27, 2015
Epstein: "Can we finalize the Rothschild agreement"
Ruemmler: "That is on my list for today!"
That's the entire exchange. No further context. No explanation of what "the Rothschild agreement" was. Just a former White House Counsel confirming that finalizing an agreement involving one of the world's most powerful banking families was on her to-do list — at Epstein's direction.
Four months earlier, Epstein had warned Ruemmler about Ariane de Rothschild:
> "reminder, ariane is all biz. careful as she prefers to drink and chat as her interrogation technique. shares confidences easily"
**EFTA02353439** — January 8, 2015. A convicted sex offender coaching Obama's former White House Counsel on how to handle a Rothschild. And Ruemmler's response: "Got it. Very good to know."
By Christmas 2015, Ruemmler was texting with Ariane de Rothschild directly, planning New Year's Eve in Geneva, inviting Epstein to Majorca — the place "where Ariane thinks you should buy a house."
**EFTA02353205** — December 25, 2015. Christmas Day. Ruemmler is coordinating travel between Epstein and a Rothschild. Merry Christmas.
The Facebook Job Interview
**EFTA02503788** — July 2, 2018
Ruemmler forwarded her draft follow-up email to Sheryl Sandberg — about the Facebook General Counsel position — directly to Jeffrey Epstein:
> "Hi Sheryl, I wanted to follow-up on my visit to FB last week. I really enjoyed getting to talk to everybody, and in particular to talk to Mark and you about your vision for the role."
Epstein's response: "Has to be today."
He wasn't giving career advice. He was managing her application timeline to one of the most powerful legal positions in technology. She had just met with Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg about becoming Facebook's top lawyer, and her first instinct was to send the follow-up draft to a convicted sex offender for approval.
The previous day, Epstein had texted "note?" — checking whether she'd written the follow-up. Ruemmler replied: "Started writing it and it felt cheesy. Will try again today."
A convicted sex offender was editing the correspondence between Obama's White House Counsel and Facebook's COO. In real time.
She didn't get the job. But Larry Summers — another Epstein associate — had lobbied Sheryl Sandberg on Ruemmler's behalf, writing "your friend sheryl could use ruemmlers help" and later "sheryl needs ruemmler."
The Governor
**EFTA02468813** — March 14, 2016
Epstein to Ruemmler:
> "I talked to the governor today who is happy to help, but thought I should wait until after the cvra case, as it might bring on some heat."
An unnamed sitting governor offered to help Jeffrey Epstein in March 2016. This was eight years after his first conviction. The governor wanted to wait until the victims' rights case concluded — to avoid scrutiny.
Ruemmler's response in the same chain: "Let's hope the cvra case eventually comes to an end."
She didn't ask which governor. She didn't express concern that a sitting governor was offering to help a convicted sex offender. She expressed hope that the victims' lawsuit would conclude so the help could begin.
Congress has this document. They subpoenaed Ruemmler today. The governor question is now a Congressional matter.
"Prefer the Korean Ladies Remain Ignorant"
**EFTA02394280** — April 12, 2015
Epstein to Ruemmler:
> "will try again when home, prefer the koreans ladies remain ignorant"
Ruemmler's response: "Yes, that's prudent."
The context of "korean ladies" is unclear. But "remain ignorant" and "that's prudent" are not ambiguous. Epstein wanted to keep certain women uninformed about something, and Ruemmler agreed it was wise.
In the same email chain, Ruemmler lays out the CVRA strategy: "(1) do no harm in the Cvra case — meaning don't open doors to collateral issues, and let that get resolved and over with (2) we need to think about long-term repair to reputation."
Legal strategy and keeping women ignorant. Same conversation. Same Sunday afternoon.
"Omg. Schneiderman."
**EFTA02446202** — May 8, 2018
When New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned over domestic violence allegations, Ruemmler's first text was to Epstein:
> "Omg. Schneiderman."
Epstein replied: "represented by macgiver"
The Attorney General of New York — the office that would later bring charges against Trump and investigate Epstein's estate — fell to a sex scandal, and Ruemmler's instinct was to text Epstein about it. Not a friend. Not a colleague. A convicted sex offender.
This is what an intelligence pipeline looks like. Every significant political event got routed through Epstein. Cabinet nominations. AG resignations. Confirmation fights. Career moves. Rothschild deals.

4. What did "prefer the Korean ladies remain ignorant" refer to?
5. Did she disclose the CVRA strategy discussions to Goldman Sachs when hired?
6. Did she disclose "Victim's rights, my ass" to Goldman Sachs?
