# The Magician's Trick: FBI Called Copperfield "Epstein's Favorite Cohort" - Why Are His Photos Redacted?

When the DOJ released the Epstein Files in January 2026, they included thousands of photos. The mansion. The island. The jets. Contact sheets with hundreds of images from seized evidence.

But when it came to David Copperfield's private island? Every single photo was completely blacked out.

We found the FBI's explanation buried in their own internal emails.

"Epstein's Favorite Cohort"

From FBI internal communications, October 19, 2007 (EFTA00013505):

*"FBI Seattle and FBI Las Vegas executed a search today on a warehouse owned by Epstein's favorite cohort, David Copperfield, in connection with allegations that Copperfield raped an adult female."*

Read that again. The FBI - in their own internal email - called the world's most famous magician "Epstein's favorite cohort."

The same email continues:

*"Copperfield spoke with the girls at Epstein's home on several occasions and tickets with 'backstage passes' were a favorite 'birthday gift' for Epstein to give the girls."*

The Timeline

October 19, 2007:

FBI Seattle and Las Vegas raid Copperfield's warehouse. The investigation concerned allegations of raping an adult female. FBI internally noted the Copperfield-Epstein connection. FBI noted backstage passes as a grooming tool.

This was the SAME DAY they were discussing Epstein's legal proceedings. The FBI knew. They documented it in their own emails.

The Redaction Pattern

We analyzed the contact sheets from the DOJ release.

Photos Released (partial or full): Little St. James Island visible. NYC Mansion visible. Palm Beach visible. Private jets visible. Various other locations visible.

Photos From Musha Cay (Copperfield's Island): EFTA00004577 completely blacked out. EFTA00004583 completely blacked out. EFTA00004584 completely blacked out. All Musha Cay contact sheets completely blacked out.

The contact sheet headers show "[REDACTED] Musha Cay, Misc." with file labels (58.jpg, 59.jpg, etc.) but the actual images are solid black rectangles.

The Questions DOJ Won't Answer

Why were Musha Cay photos redacted when others weren't?

What do those photos show?

Who else visited Copperfield's island with Epstein?

Why did DOJ protect this specific location?

The rape allegations against Copperfield were eventually dropped. No charges filed. But the FBI's internal characterization - "Epstein's favorite cohort" - and the consistent grooming pattern ("backstage passes were a favorite birthday gift") remain in the record.

What We Know

The DOJ made a choice. They released explicit evidence from multiple Epstein locations. But for the photos connected to the world's most famous magician - photos from his private island - they chose total redaction.
