# The Matchmaker: Paolo Zampolli, Amanda Ungaro, and the Documents Melania Doesn't Want You to Search
On April 9, 2026, Melania Trump walked into the Cross Hall of the White House and delivered a prepared statement: "The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today." She called the correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell "casual" and "trivial." She called on Congress to hold a public hearing for survivors.
Two days earlier, a series of messages attributed to Amanda Ungaro appeared online threatening to "expose everything that I know." Ungaro is a Brazilian former model who arrived in New York City at age 16 on a plane owned by Jeffrey Epstein. Her agent on that flight was Jean-Luc Brunel. She was signed to ID Models, an agency founded by Paolo Zampolli. She had a child with Zampolli. She socialized with the Trumps at Mar-a-Lago. And she is now in Rio de Janeiro, deported at Zampolli's behest during a custody dispute, with nothing left to lose.
Melania's statement was not scheduled. White House aides were stunned. The statement did not kill the story. It confirmed the "Dear GI" email was real, described it as a "trivial note," and sent EFTA02332411 viral for the second time.
We have the documents. Here is what they say.
The matchmaker
Paolo Zampolli is the man who introduced Melania Knauss to Donald Trump. He has said so himself, repeatedly. He met Melania on a scouting trip to Milan in 1995, signed her to his agency ID Models, sponsored her H-1B visa, and in September 1998, at a Fashion Week party at the Kit Kat Club in New York, introduced her to Trump. Zampolli is now serving in the Trump administration as Special Envoy for Global Partnerships and sits on the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees.
Zampolli also did business with Jeffrey Epstein. In 2004, Zampolli and Epstein jointly bid to purchase Elite Model Management at auction. They were outbid. Zampolli described the relationship as: "For me, Jeffrey Epstein was a financial partner of Victoria's Secret. I had to deal with him."
In 2013, Zampolli was named one of four partners in Ghislaine Maxwell's TerraMar Project, an ocean conservation charity. TerraMar shut down within days of Epstein's arrest in July 2019.
What the DOJ documents say about Zampolli
EFTA02536145 is an email from Jeffrey Epstein to Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the chairman of Dubai Ports World, sent February 15, 2011 from Epstein's personal Gmail ([email protected]):
"Be careful, zampoli is trouble. Lots."
In a follow-up email (EFTA02535652), Epstein adds: "He sells stories to the press."
Sultan responds (EFTA02535717 and EFTA02351505) that Zampolli had been "chasing me to have dinner" and that he was "taking my wife with me" and wanted to "be discreet in my stay here in ny."
Epstein knew Zampolli well enough to warn a close contact about him by name. He characterized Zampolli as a liability who leaked to the press. The emails are from 2011 — three years after Zampolli introduced Melania to Trump, seven years after they jointly bid on Elite Model Management.
EFTA02418453 is a September 2010 email in which an intermediary forwards a Zampolli promotional link to Epstein: "Hi Jeffrey, Paolo asked me to forward this to you." The link was to coverage of Zampolli's UN Summit gala reception. Zampolli was still seeking Epstein's attention as late as 2010.
Amanda Ungaro
Amanda Ungaro was born in Londrina, Brazil, in 1984. At approximately 16 years old, she was flown to New York City on a plane owned by Jeffrey Epstein. Her agent on that flight was Jean-Luc Brunel — the French modeling scout who was arrested in 2020 for trafficking minors for Epstein and was found dead in his Paris prison cell in February 2022.
In New York, Ungaro was signed to Zampolli's ID Models. She and Zampolli began a relationship. They had a son in 2010.
In June 2014, Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, appointed Ungaro as United Nations Ambassador for Youth Affairs. She served under the 69th UN General Assembly Vice Presidency for the Blue Economy and represented Grenada at the International Criminal Court and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty sessions.
After separating from Zampolli, Ungaro married a Brazilian physician and lived in Aventura, Florida. In 2025, she was arrested in Miami on fraud charges related to an unlicensed cosmetic surgery clinic and for overstaying her visa. Zampolli reportedly contacted a senior ICE official about her immigration status. She was placed in ICE custody for approximately three months, including time in a Louisiana facility, before requesting deportation to Brazil.
As of April 2026, Ungaro is in Rio de Janeiro. The custody dispute over their son is ongoing. On April 7, 2026, messages attributed to Ungaro appeared online threatening to expose what she knows.
Two days later, Melania made her statement.
The "Dear GI" email
EFTA02332411 is an email from Melania Knauss to Ghislaine Maxwell, dated 2002, beginning "Dear GI." Melania's April 9 statement confirmed the email is authentic, characterizing it as "casual correspondence" and "a trivial note."
Snopes authenticated the document on April 10. The EFTA ID is now public record.
Our Epstein search index returns 2,673 results for "Melania." The "Dear GI" email is one of 400,000+ DOJ documents we indexed within 48 hours of the EFTA release and have maintained as a free, searchable public resource since.
The Ungaro reference in our index
EFTA01834590 is an email from Jeffrey Epstein to Annabelle Neilson (the late British socialite and model), dated January 22, 2011:
"giles deacon, now with ungaro. reputation.. does he have any talent?"
This is a reference to Giles Deacon's appointment as creative director of the fashion house Emanuel Ungaro — not to Amanda Ungaro directly. However, the fashion house connection is relevant because Zampolli, Brunel, Epstein, and Maxwell all operated within the same New York-Paris modeling and fashion ecosystem in which both Ungaros — the fashion house and Amanda — existed.
What this means
The chain is documented:
Zampolli introduced Melania to Trump. Zampolli did business with Epstein. Zampolli's agency signed Amanda Ungaro after she arrived on Epstein's plane at 16 with Brunel. Zampolli partnered with Maxwell's TerraMar. Zampolli is now in the Trump administration. Ungaro is in Rio, deported, threatening to talk. Melania made an unscheduled White House statement two days later.
We are not making accusations. We are citing EFTA document IDs and public reporting. The documents are searchable. The connections are verifiable. The timing is what it is.
